Tan Chui Mui heads to Taipei Film Festival as a jury

Malaysian director Tan Chui Mui has been picked as one of the five international juries to preside over the International New Talent Competition at the 20th Taipei Film Festival, happening from June 28 to July 14.

This segment of the festival was established in 2005 to discover emerging directors with their first or second work, be it a film or a non-fiction feature.

Each year, 10 to 12 films are picked to compete in the category. The juries will then select the Grand Prize and Special Jury Prize winners.

Tan is best known for her film Love Conquers All (2005) which has won international awards at the Pusan International Film Festival and Rotterdam International Film Festival.

The director, who turns 40 this year, has taken upon herself to be a nurturing figure in the Malaysian film industry, and to discover new talents in the field.

With that in mind, she founded Next New Wave in 2015 with the support from Finas (National Film Development Corporation Malaysia).
