King Arthur’s tale gets a reboot in ‘The Kid Who Would Be King’

Director-writer Joe Cornish (Attack The Block) takes a stab at the legendary King Arthur tale by adding a twist to it.

Not only does he set The Kid Who Would Be King in the present day, but the main protagonists are youngsters. Alex (Ashbourne Serkis, son of Andy Serkis) learns there’s more to him than meets the eye when he stumbles upon the mythical Sword in the Stone at an abandoned area, and manages to pull out Excalibur in one swoop.

It seems with the sword out of the stone, it has brought some really bad things to Alex’s world including the wicked enchantress Morgana (Rebecca Ferguson).

Now Alex must gather a motley crew to fight the evil. Luckily, the legendary wizard Merlin (Patrick Stewart) is also in the picture to offer some assistance.

The Kid Who Would Be King is scheduled to open at cinemas nationwide on Jan 17.

‘I don’t have to go to your hairdresser? Phew.’

Talk to the hand, witch.

…And this is how you put a sword to sleep.
